Neighborhood Handyman

Before you hire Neighborhood Handyman

Texas does not license handymen at the state level. Plumbing, electrical and HVAC work must still be done by the licensed trade.

• The typical home in Odessa was built in 1980.
• With 51% of Odessa's homes built before 1980, many are covered by federal lead rules: any home built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, and under the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule, contractors who disturb painted surfaces in those homes must be lead-safe certified by the EPA or an authorized state program. Ask to see the firm's certification.
• Freezes are occasional in Odessa (about 49 nights a year), so a hard freeze can catch uninsulated pipes and outdoor spigots by surprise; insulate exposed pipes before winter.
