What Plumbers, Electricians and Other Trades Earn in 130 U.S. Metro Areas

How much do the people who fix homes earn, and where? We pulled the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) for May 2025 for 10 home-service occupations in the 130 metro areas that contain RateDeed's hub cities.

Wages are not prices. These figures are what employed workers earn. A contractor's hourly rate also covers insurance, licensing, vehicles, tools, overhead and profit, so it is higher.

Methodology

Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025 metropolitan area estimates (bls.gov/oes). "Middle 80%" is the 10th to 90th percentile hourly wage. Construction managers stand in for general contractors; "maintenance and repair workers, general" is the closest occupation to handymen. Metro links go to RateDeed's trade page for the main hub city in that metro, where the same figures appear next to local listings.
